Celebrating World Photography Day: A Tribute to Legacy, Connection, and Creativity
Today, we celebrate World Photography Day—a moment to honor the art and craft of photography, as well as the deep human connection it fosters, the stories it preserves, and the legacy it helps us create.
World Photography Day is observed annually on August 19th, commemorating the invention of the daguerreotype in 1839 by Louis Daguerre, one of the earliest photographic processes in history. This invention forever changed the way we see the world—and how we remember it. It gave us the ability to capture time, emotion, and history with light.
As a portrait photographer based in Coral Gables and Miami, I find this day incredibly meaningful. It’s a moment to pause and reflect on how photography continues to impact our lives, our memories, our families, and our personal stories.
Photography Is More Than an Image—It’s Legacy
Photography, for me, has always been more than a profession—it’s my ikigai, my purpose. Through my work at Odette Photo+Art, I’ve had the privilege of helping people capture their essence, preserve their milestones, and build a visual legacy that outlives them. Whether it’s through personal branding sessions, family portraits, or photo restoration services, my mission is to ensure every photograph tells a story worth remembering.
And that’s why days like World Photography Day matter—because they remind us of the importance of being seen, being remembered, and sharing our truth through powerful imagery.
Community Over Competition: A Bond That Transcends Borders
In 2019, I had the life-changing opportunity to travel to Houston and New York City to meet an incredible group of photographers, thanks to Sven Malojlo and the SMAL community. These weren’t just networking events or creative retreats—they were gatherings of passionate, generous, and wildly talented individuals who believe in community over competition.
I LOVED every second spent with these artists. The conversations, the creative collaborations, the laughter, and the deep sense of mutual respect shaped me both personally and professionally. We weren’t just photographers in the same room—we became friends, chosen family, and creative allies.
There’s something magical that happens when artists gather not to compete, but to uplift and inspire each other. We celebrated each other’s work. We listened. We showed up for one another—not just on set, but in life. Those moments solidified my belief that the best photography doesn’t come from standing alone, but from standing together.
Why Photography Matters More Than Ever
In an increasingly fast-paced, digital world, photography offers a still point—a visual breath. It allows us to:
- Preserve moments that otherwise disappear
- Celebrate identity and authenticity
- Tell stories of resilience, joy, and transformation
- Create legacy for generations to come
As a brand photographer, I work with entrepreneurs who are bringing their vision to life. What we create together is more than a headshot—it’s a representation of their values, voice, and personal power. These images become their digital handshake, their first impression, their ongoing visual narrative.
As a photo restoration expert, I see firsthand how powerful it is to bring old memories back to life. Each scratch we remove, each tear we mend, each color we restore—it’s an act of honoring the past and giving families something they thought was lost forever.
Photography is purpose.
Photography is healing.
Photography is connection.
From Coral Gables to the World: Honoring the Power of Portraiture
Based in Coral Gables and serving the greater Miami area, I’m lucky to be surrounded by vibrant cultures, diverse stories, and families who want to preserve their traditions while embracing their futures. Miami is full of movement and light—and photography is how I make that energy last.
Every image I create is intentional. Whether we’re doing a sunset session in Brickell, a brand shoot in Coconut Grove, or a family legacy portrait in South Miami, the goal is always the same: to capture truth, beauty, and connection.
On World Photography Day, I want to remind my clients and community: You deserve to be seen. You deserve to remember. You deserve to be part of a story that outlives you.
To My Fellow Photographers—Thank You
To the incredible creatives I met in Houston and NYC, and to all the photographers I’ve crossed paths with or admired from afar—thank you. Thank you for showing up with your heart and your camera. Thank you for making the world more beautiful, one frame at a time.
You continue to remind me that photography isn’t just about light and lenses—it’s about empathy, presence, and legacy. It’s about seeing people and helping them see themselves more clearly.
Happy World Photography Day!
Whether you’re a professional photographer, a hobbyist, or someone who simply loves a good photo—celebrate today by picking up your camera, revisiting your old albums, or scheduling a session that captures who you are in this season of your life.
And if you’re in Miami or Coral Gables and ready to create something timeless, meaningful, and maybe even world-changing—I’d love to work with you.
Let’s make memories. Let’s tell your story. Let’s create your legacy—one photograph at a time.
