Annie: the Fashion Poet
Webcam sessions have become very popular ever since Tim Dunk started the trend. I have enjoyed the opportunity to do something unorthodox in times of self-isolation. I am keeping this type of session as an option for the future. Pure creativity in times of social distance, they are also a way to photograph people from different parts of the world. People you might not have snapped otherwise.
Thanks to the magic of the Internet and Instagram and webcam sessions, I got to photograph Annie Vazquez, the Fashion Poet.
Almost 3 years ago, waaaaaay before my photography journey became serious, I read an article about her for the first time. She was Cuban like me, a former teacher like me, and I loved her portraits. I remember thinking "Wow, I would love to photograph her".
I became her follower. One of the most popular influencers and fashion bloggers in Miami, Florida, she is so genuine and that's why her 80k+ followers show up for her every day, including me. Her views about body positivity, wellness, and healthy living are very inspiring. Also, I know I can count on her Instagram stories when I need support, positivity, and empowerment.
We had made plans for a real session in the future but coronavirus happened and last week, we had a webcam photoshoot. It was a lot of fun. In her own words: "It was a fun experience. I needed some images for my business and the face-time shoot gave me an opportunity to do so."
It was fun, indeed, and we ended up talking about projects and life. What a great opportunity to meet an incredible human being who wants to help and heal others while they are on their journey!
